Waffle House Armageddon – A Podcast Debut
As I sit down to write this post, I’m entering my fourth week of working from home and observing my community’s shelter in place mandate. Like many of you, the explosion of “at home” time has led me to tackle quite a few projects.
As I sit down to write this post, I'm entering my fourth week of working from home and observing my community's shelter in place mandate. Like many of you, the explosion of "at home" time has led me to tackle quite a few projects that typically keep getting pushed down to the bottom of my chore list. Two weeks ago I got a jump start on Spring cleaning by washing all of our windows - inside and out. And just last week, I helped my teenage boys adjust the layout of their bedrooms after a hefty amount of dusting and vacuuming. My muscles may not have appreciated the earlier-than-normal cleaning routine, I have to admit that it did wonders for my mental state.
Eager to continue the momentum in crossing things off my "overdue" to-do list, I decided it was time to finally tackle creating a podcast for Bourbon & Banter. Creating a podcast is something that's been on the team's concept list for at least four years - if not longer. We've watched bourbon-theme podcasts sprout up around but despite becoming fans of many of them, we were never ready to create our own. Well, that is until a global pandemic decided to screw up our plans for Spring and close down all of the Waffle House restaurants. It's not quite hell freezing over but it's close enough for us to get of our asses and finally record our first podcast.
This past week, on April 1st to be exact, I sat down with Bob Bennett to record the first episode while practicing proper social distancing. I managed the recording from my home studio while Bob called in remotely via a Zoom connection so we could see each other while recording. I wasn't sure if the technology was going to work but I was pleasantly surprise by the quality of the finished recording. We hope you enjoy it as well.
I don't want to give too much away about our first episode but we've got a variety of segments ranging from whiskey headlines, reviews revisited, the craft-shoot, and a very special segment where we air our whiskey grievances. And while the show is a bit longer than we originally anticipated, we do plan to tighten things up a bit as we progress with new shows and segments. You can give the podcast a listen using the player below or you can head over to Spotify to listen if you prefer. We're in the process of submitting the podcast to Apple as well so it should be available there in a few weeks.
Warning: If you're not comfortable with cussing and swearing, you might want to skip this one folks. It's recorded at barrel strength with full-throttle banter.
We hope you enjoy our debut podcast and that you'll consider sharing it with your friends. We'd love to hear what you think in the comments below or by sending us an email via our podcast email address.
Have a great week and remember to stay safe while you're spreading the bourbon gospel and learning to #drinkcurious.
