STEVE'S NOTES

SHARE WITH: Any whiskey fan.

WORTH THE PRICE: Depends on your love of Irish whiskey. Well-made and blended 10-year-old spirits like this aren’t cheap to make, so $100 isn’t a crazy price—especially if Irish whiskey really is your thing. A Scotch drinker may crave more complexity while a bourbon drinker likely wants something bolder. Regardless, this is truly delicious whiskey.

OVERALL: This is an elegant and well-mannered whiskey; balanced, velvet soft, delicately honeyed while delivering a bit of spice across the palate. Easy, easy sipping that deserves some classy nibbles (think caviar and smoked salmon). The brand says this was finished in XO Cognac barrels, but I struggled to discern any Cognac influence other than a little vanilla. While I prefer bolder whiskeys than Irish, this checks all the right boxes for this designation. Fans of the category will love it, and drinkers new to the category will be delighted to start learning here. I won’t be a bit sad to revisit this regularly for my own education.

FINISH: Long and gentle, with ginger returning to lemon zest and a touch of liquorice to close.

EGAN’S IRISH WHISKEY: ONCE MORE, WITH CONVICTIONFinished in XO Cognac Casks, ‘Conviction’ Displays Generations of Expertise

DUBLIN, IRELAND (February 11, 2022) Egan's Irish Whiskey is set to prove their mettle yet again with their newest release: Conviction will be another benchmark from this well-loved family of exemplary whiskeys. Egan’s Conviction is a blend of single malt and single grain Irish whiskeys, each aged for at least 10 years, married together and finished in XO Cognac casks.

“‘Conviction’ is a word meant to extol the virtues not only of our heritage, but also of what we expect to accomplish in the future,” said Jonathan Egan. “The generations of talented whiskey men and women who came before were known not only for their powerfully held beliefs, but their good works as well. We strive to continue on the path they defined with this exciting bottling.”

Egan’s, now a multi-generational brand, was established by brothers Henry and Patrick Egan in 1852. For the next 116 years P. & H. Egan LTD was widely known to provide some of the finest Irish Whiskey to the world. In 2013 the fifth and sixth generations, Maurice and Jonathan Egan, breathed new life into the dormant enterprise and have since been sourcing and aging expressions that celebrate their lineage.

“Egan’s Irish Whiskey is incredibly proud of its history,” said John Ralph, CEO of Intrepid Spirits, the brand’s distribution partner. “With an eye to the traditions from which we have come, we endeavor with each bottle of Egan’s to create a legacy for the future.”

Finished in XO Cognac barrels, Conviction shows an opulent aroma, defined by floral cereal grains, honey and dried apricot. On the palate one will find new leather, marzipan, and hints of ginger, lifted by zesty citrus. Long and lingering, the finish closes with hints of liquorice and vanilla.

Egan’s Irish Whiskey, including the Conviction expression, is part of the Intrepid Spirits portfolio. The 750ml bottle has a suggested retail price of $100 (46% ABV, 92 Proof).
