Bourbon Tooth Paste
The 1950s are often remembered as a magical and idyllic time in our nation’s history. And who am I to argue now that I’ve learned that bourbon toothpaste (with real alcohol) was created and marketed in the 50s?
According to a piece over on MentalFloss.com, Scotch toothpaste was invented in 1954 by Don Poynter. (Don’s other claim to fame was the creation of crossword-puzzle toilet tissue.) A nice spread in Life magazine helped propel his toothpaste into a huge seller – albeit temporarily.
Perhaps if he had increased its potency from “six proof,” it would have been even more successful.
