LUKE'S NOTES
NOSE: Plums | Cherries | Caramel | Tobacco | Oak
TASTE: Cherries | Vanilla | Baking Spices | Leather
FINISH: Long with multiple waves. Fills your mouth and chest. One of the better finishes I’ve experienced with an American Whiskey.
SHARE WITH: At 127 proof this version might be aimed more at whiskey aficionados and I think they will enjoy it. It is a very complex yet balanced whiskey. I wouldn’t shy away from offering this to more inexperienced whiskey drinkers either.
WORTH THE PRICE: The MSRP is $59.99 and I know I am not alone having paid far more for much less. This is a great Cask Strength Whiskey and I would be happy to pay that price.
BOTTLE, BAR OR BUST: This is a true value whiskey and I look forward to trying additional bottlings that Dave and Boondocks’ introduce.
OVERALL: I enjoy higher proof whiskey so I enjoyed the Cask Strength bottling a little more than the 95 proof but both are very good. Dave is a legend in the business and these bottlings are another achievement he should be very proud to put his name on.
BRAND NOTES
Boondocks Whiskey is brought to you by Whisky Advocate Lifetime Achievement Award winner, Dave Scheurich. And while you may have never heard his name, Dave has helped create some of America’s most recognized whiskeys over the last 40 years.
But all this talk would make Dave blush.
The real audience Dave cares about has enjoyed the drinks he created and has never given a second thought to the artist behind the scenes. And that’s just fine with Dave.
His love, passion, and expertise are legendary – and can be found in every bottle of Boondocks, what may well be his crowning achievement.
Aged for 11 years in American white oak barrel in Kentucky, Boondocks American Whiskey 95 Proof is made from corn, rye, and malt. Light in color but rich, nuanced and complex, fruitiness and exotic spices enhance some of the subtler aromatic characteristics like the toasted marshmallow oak barrel notes. Mouthfeel is creamy and buttery with a long, pleasant finish. Overall, the whiskey is spicy and warm but does not burn and is sweet like cotton candy. Boondocks American Whiskey Cask Strength 127 Proof has distinctive aromas of rich caramel and vanilla. A robust and pleasantly aggressive palate is highlighted by fall spices and oak that leaves a long-lasting finish. This expression received a Gold Medal/91 Points in the Los Angeles International Spirits Competition 2016 and Best of Category in the Ultimate Spirits Challenge 2016.
